Where should I place my new capacitor? *pics*

Just got a .5 farad cap for $100.. I would have got a 1 farad, or more, but these mofos aren't cheap. Anyways, where do think I should mount this thing?

On this one I was thinking mount it angled, then put another one on the left when I can burn another $100. Would that work having two caps? Would it be the same as having one 1 farad cap?

..or should I just hide it.

I think I'm either going to hide it, or put it in like this. What do you think about this, tacky?

I got the same car as you and I want to make the best sub enclosure.

Are you happy with that enclosure.

Yeah I guess, just sounds like bass. I'm not a huge stereo nut, I just like having some bumps.. but the power is taking away from the rest of the car.

I personally would put it in the bottom right hand corner of the box going long ways, that way it is still displayed nicely, but not too bodly out their. You could use two capacitors, my boyfriend has a cap and actually is upgrading to two 1 farat caps, so if your interested in somthing cheap but reliable maybe if you were interested he would sell you the one he has now. It is alittle taller then the one you have in the pic but it has a digital screen and is a 1 farat. Let me know

Tara

Re: Where should I place my new capacitor? *pics*

I decided to hide it on the side, in person everything else looks pretty tacky. I think I'm going to take it back anyways because the lights and radio still sound like they're killing the car, and the turn signals make the revs bounce up and down a little. I may just need a new battery, the one I have on there is started to get green stuff around the terminals.

Also, my alternator belt squealed last night for the first time after the engine swap, and I'm not going to blame this capacitor but it's all I've done to the car since driving it last.

Re: Where should I place my new capacitor? *pics*

its actually possible the alternator itself is to blame, at the end of their life they tend to start putting out subpar voltage/current.

use a multimeter while the car is idling, you should be getting around 14.4v.

Re: Where should I place my new capacitor? *pics*

bro, don't pay retail for those suckers, u can get digital caps off ebay for less than a $100. i just purchased mine which is a 1 farad monster digital cap for $73, including shipping and handling it came out to $87 total. the retail at best buy was $200 each, next time get it from ebay.

for the positions, anywhere u put it would be great as long as u put it as close to the amplifier as possible. for ur set up right now, i like the two in the middle b4 the last one. the one where u put it aside to box is good, now its almost out of every one's view. the other is good too where u had it higher on the box, that way the chance of something rolling around in your trunk and hitting it would be minute. just remember the closer to the amp the better, but u should know this, right?

im having a problem whether to change my cap position also. since mine is a digital cap i want it placed where i can see the current coming in. the problem is that currently, it's in the trunk with the amp and sub, so if i want the cap in the front, then i also have to move the the amp. if i move the amp, then im going to to have to move the wiring and get a bigger speaker wire from amp subs. it just one big mess .

here, i even got u a link, it's only $89 and is a a brand new 1 farad digital cap. damn good price if u ask me, although u have to pay shipping which is $12, u don't have to pay for tax .

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14932

i went for monster cable because of preferance and of course the rockford wouldn't match my jl subs.

Unhappy

I think it's better with the last photo - no vibration or whatsoever. What is that black bar across the amp/box? Is it some type of bracing? Hey guys, when you initially fully charged the capacitor, would it remain fully charged or slowly drain away (negative terminal is grounded) ? I got a 1.2 Farad digital capacitor from ebay for a total of $74, but it didn't stay fully charged - maybe defected. That's is the only problem when buying via ebay, return fees, second shipping and handling fee - it's might not worth it (sometime).
:=)

Re: Re: Where should I place my new capacitor? *pics*

It's a measure of capacitance, like ohm's for resistance, watts for power, volts for.. volts... etc.

The battery charges the capacitor, and the sub feeds from it instead of directly from the battery. That way when you turn your lights on or something, the battery will have power to redirect it's attention to that for a second while the sub still sucks from the capacitor. Then the battery can look back and start filling it again.
