Can the four speed auto reach the same top speed as the five speed gearbox?

Well?

I was just curious. What do you think that the I-4 could top out at? (Auto and Manual)

well it all depends, you'd first want to modify your computer to take out the limiter and then beyond that since the I4 is an iron block you can throw all the shit you want at it. if you go as far as a twin turbo setup with performance intercoolers and upgrade all the electronics and ignition and redo the exhaust system and maybe throw some nitrous at it along with some other stuff you could probably top out to around 170 with the right body kit for aerodynamics.... MAYBE. but if you're talking stock the I4 won't do much more than around 120-140 im guessin. remember you're dealing with a FWD car that is fairly new to anything resemling high performance.

stock i4 will do 120 then it starts going up real slowly...ive tried. i dont know how many times i gotta say this but ill do it one more time. the v6 is not weak because its aluminum. F1 engine blocks are made out of aluminum. it is weak becuase the way the block was designed...NOT just because it is aluminum. they didnt design the block correctly around its aluminum characteristic(well, they did...but they didnt design it to handle high hp numbers).

and what does top speed have to do with anything at all? unless you go to a dried lake bed and try to break some FWD land speed records, top speed has nothing to do with anything. and why would you want a twin turbo setup on a car meant for top speed? why not just simplify it and go with oine big ass turbo? since the only advantage of a twin turbo setup is more boost at a faster spool up. acceleration has nothing to do with top speed. get one big ass turbo with tons of lag, and you will be better off.

Well I was just curious if there was much of a performance change in the auto or manual.

And when you meant "really slowly" do you mean it does go past 120?

I really think that tho (and this is my personal opinion, experiance) that the Tiburon does great on technical roads and race courses were fewer straightaways appear

I have a 5 speed manual I4, i can accellerate to about 140-142mph at a decent rate of speed(i only lose a small amount of "oomph" after 120), then it just kinda crawls past that(140mph).........tops out at it at like 149 1/2 mph. I can't seem to get the needle to hit 150, just a hair below it.

sorry dude, i dont believe that. how did you find this out and not get arrested? but once speeds reach that, the speedometer is VERY innaccurate, so i guess MAYBE its possible.

I hit 142 in my '03 auto the day I bought it on a straight, flat road... it took a few seconds to get from 130 to 142 but it did it... now with my home made SRI I've gotten as high as 151.

I have a video of me racing(from a dead stop) an '89 5.0 with I/H/E 3" catback, plugs and wires. We went about 1/2-3/4 of a mile or so and ended with me doing about 140 and being 1 1/2 cars ahead of him. Now, granted it was an auto stang, but still, 3 more litres than me If you wanna host my vid for me, put it up for all to see.
