How do you repair/replace 1995 Caravan rear door release?
Looking for any help on how to repair the rear door release on a 1995 Dodge Caravan LE. The button on the dash is not working, so you have to get out and use the key. Is this something that can be done without taking it to a service repair? Had it told to me that the "actuator" would need to be replaced in the rear door...Thanks for any help. Raybug

Re: How do you repair/replace 1995 Caravan rear door release?
We have an '89 which had the same problem-also was very very hard to close and get it to latch. I carefully removed the inside panel from the rear door (watch out for the wiring to the small lights). The panel is held in place with plastic fasteners which are easy to pry out and reinstall. I found alot of corrosion on the latch assembly which kept it from moving. I removed the assembly and cleaned it up with a wire brush, penetrating fluid, and electrical cleaner. After cleaning, I lubed the moving parts with lithium spray. B_E_F_O_R_E disassembly check to see if you're getting the 12 volt feed from the front with a test-light or voltmeter. If you're even slightly mechanically inclined, this shouldn't be a tough job.

The liftgate latch recall #640 affected the 2nd generation Caravans/Voyagers. Not sure of the exact years but that body style went from 1991 to 1995.
