Re: Vortec heads on pre-96 engines
I have a set on my race car and they work great. The block is a 69 350 and the heads are off of a 97 truck. The biggest trick is you have to run a special intake manifold, you can drill the heads to bolt an old intake on, but you are losing some of the flow potential of the heads by doing this. Look and see if GM makes an intake for you app.

the vortec heads have a taller intake runner, which requires a special intake........gm part number.12496821......this is for a tbi set up. look in the 2004 march issue of truckin' mag. theres a whole spread on this topic. u also wanna use the exhaust manifolds off of the same vehicle the heads came off of.

Edelbrock makes an intake manifold for use with the Vortec heads. I;m using the Edelbrock manifold and stock Vortec heads on an 87 383 stroker. Works good. Edelbrock calls the intake an "ETec" manifold, I think.
