Has anybody heard of this?
The "Horsepower Box": http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33597 From his EBay page: This HORSEPOWER BOX slightly alters the Air Intake Temperature. This module LETS the driver alter the IAT signal. A colder air intake charge richens the Air Fuel Mixture to slightly higher levels than Stoichiometric ratio (14.7:1) AND advances the timing anywhere from 2-5 degrees. As the engine warms, the performance and pep is lost because the timing is retarded and fuel mixture is leaned out. THIS MOD IS DYNO PROVEN TO WORK, ONE OF OUr TEST CARS WAS A 99 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SUPERCHARGED 3.8. WE GAINED 24.5 HORSEPOWER AND IT RAN THE QUARTER MILE AT 14.4 SECONDS INSTEAD OF THE STOCK 15.3 SECONDS. SO THIS SHOWS THAT THIS PRODUCT IS THE REAL DEAL! The seller's got a good feedback rating...just don't know if it would actually work, although the theory is sound. What do you guys think? BTW, here's the other version of the product, with more bells and whistles, so it costs a bit more...but they explain how it works better: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33597

well it sounds like it fools the ECU to advance the timing and run richer....
the timing advance will give you power but the richer mixture will take away power... i kind of doubt that a few degrees of ignition advance will make up for a rich mixture.... its kind of funny in their advertisement they make leaning out sound like it would rob power...that to me sounds dishonest since most people know squat about AF ratio and this fools them

Re: Has anybody heard of this?
yes, and besides, why fool the ECU when you can get a cold air intake and ACTUALLY HAVE COLDER AIR!!
add that to the fact that you can adjust your own timing and you see how worthless this product really is.

Re: Has anybody heard of this?
As for the good feedback. Is this the automotive equivelant of the placebo effect?
You know, in drug studies where they give a certain amount of people tested a sugar pill. Most of these people end up feeling better because they believe the pill has the ability to do so. Maybe these guys just think their car is going faster. I see it all the time with other ridiculous "mods". |

that looks like a part of my computer?? hmm...i think they met by taking the hood off of your car, and go up north to gain HP in this cold weather. seriously...thats pretty dumb idea, but who ever is going to buy that thing is dumber.
