aftermarket cam or not

i just bought a 69 malibu and am wondering if it has an aftermarket cam. it has edelbrock heads(not sure what kind), holley carb, contender holley intake on A 350. I would think it would have an aftermarket cam, previous owner was clueless. How would i know for sure? When i shift into gear (auto) it jumps no matter how hard i have the brake pushed, but then again doesent sound real lopey. any input would be great thanks. ps what cam would you suggest me getting???

If the previous owner spent the money on all the performance parts, especialy the heads, they likely got a cam, too. Sometimes, if you take the timing cover and gear off, you might see a brand name and part number on the front of the cam, that you could use as a reference. Otherwise, you could get a dial micrometer, pull off the valve cover and check the lift and duration of the cam. (which is more important anyways)
As far as getting a new cam, There are hundreds of Chev cams out there to suit any power, rev range and parts combination you could name. Some research may be required.

I would suggest you should tune the car as is and make sure it is running its best, before springing for new parts.
Also, if the car jumps into gear, it may just have a shift kit in it, combined with a stock (low stall) converter. So long as the engine idle is not set too high I wouldn't worry about it. (Just an idea)
