Question Oil In Coolant

Replaced Heads On 86 Suburban With 350 Engine. Runs Fine But When Rechecked Fluids I Found Oil In The Coolant But No Coolant In The Oil. There Is No Oil Cooler And It Doesnt Overheat. Any Ideas?

Re: Oil In Coolant

it is possible that when you pulled the heads, the oil leaked from the head into the coolant passage. not much you can do but empty coolant into pail and skim off the oil, or empty, flush and refill the system. you'll still have to clean the overflow jug.

im with toivo on that one, flush everything, then keep a close eye on it all, maybe you just spilled some fluids when you were taking it all apart. i know when ive ripped engines apart it isnt a very clean job.

dont forget to change the oil at 300-500 miles, since youll have gaskets that will breakdown as they wear in. after one or two times of oil changes like that, switch to every 3000 miles.

Double check the the coolant and make sure it is not trans fluid. If it is the trans cooler in the radiator is bad. (Thats if you have an internal cooler)
