HID: Real or fake?

Can anyone recommend either a true HID conversion, or "fake" 9007 bulbs that you can actually see with at night? I'm tired of the blue bulbs that look nice, but have as much light output as a Bic lighter.

Re: HID: Real or fake?

HID are now illegal to buy in the US....but if you look elsewhere you might find some--If you dont feel like doing something illegal I would go with the Silvestars.

I had silverstars on my car before I put HIDs and Liked them alot....big improvement

HIDs do not compare to any 9007 bulb...

BTW I use the Catz 4500 kit
and I bought them before it became illegal to sell.

Re: HID: Real or fake?

I've got no problem doing something illegal. Hell, what are the chances of getting caught? Illinois does not do state inspections, so I don't have anything to worry about there. Does anyone know of a reliable source that I could look into for an HID kit?

Re: HID: Real or fake?

If you can find the housings with the projectors to accompany the H.I.D. retrofit kit properly go for it. Putting those bulbs in stock housings is not good. Halogen housings use reflectors to bounce the light off the back of the housing to shine the light. H.I.D. most commonly xenon or xenon/krypton use a projector to focus the light outward. ~When did H.I.D. vending become illegal?~

It became illegall back in NOV of '03....

They did this because aftermarket Kits have never been legal on cars...thats why you always see for offroad use only....
They made it illegal to sell because too many people (ie Ricers) would improperly install HIDs on their cars and blind traffic

HID if install correctly will not blind oncoming traffic....but most ricers remove all the reflectors inside the Capsule causeing a brights on all the time effect.

There is an HID forum out there were the writer of the bill posted answers to most peoples question...I would look for that for more detail explaination.
