First Engine Pull...

That's right after tomorrow I will no longer be an engine 'virgin'...I am pulling the D15B1 out of my old (smashed) STD. I'm actually quite excited about it...
I know, I know...big deal...but hey...any words of wisdom from anyone?

If not...wish me luck!

Jason

Friggin' anti-freeze seems to keep dripping out of everywhere. If you don't want it running all over the place, make sure you've got it all drained off and having something under the car/engine to soak up the rest.

I just finally got the engine pulled out of mine a couple of weeks ago.. was my first engine pull to do on my own.... if your experience is anything like mine, don't expect it to just slip right out.... takes time to unhook everything before you start hoisting it out.

yeah i got a few words of wisdom. learn from my mistake, take your radiator out before you pull or put the engine in. 2 have fun getting the pin out of the shift linkage, i just jacked the car way up and pulled the linkage out with the motor. then took the tranny off and knocked the pin out that way. it came right out.
when you put the motor back in. its a pain in the ass to get the mount bolts in. do not start with the engine mount.
thats all i can remember have fun!

As far as the radiator goes, it's out, because it was smashed when my STD met with a Dodge Ram.

Well here (before):

After Accident:

First Stage of Dismantelling:

About a Week Ago:

There is more removed at this point...the air chamber and resonator are off...the washer fluid and antifreeze bottle are gone, the manifold heat shield is off, and a few other things...I'm leaving the transmission attached and pulling it right out with the engine and then removing it.

Any other suggestions?

Jason

from the looks of those pictures you have a lot more to worry about than a engine pull. are you sure you dint twist up the frame a bit on the pass side. i would most deff check out the front cross member and stablizer bar.

I think that you misunderstood Vesper...THAT is the donor car...that is the engine that is coming "out" and going "in" another car...that car that you see there will no longer be driven. (sniff)

Jason

PS> Engine is out...I have pulled my first engine...took approx 3 hours.

The D15B1 in now in my Si (as of last night), with the Si MPFI attached and soon to have a cold air intake attached. Everything seems to be fine, mind you there is some oil in my spark plug chamber, what is that?...and how do I fix it?? Also there is a weird idle problem...when idling it rev's from about 900rpm to 2000rpm all on it's own...I don't have a clue what that is. (help)

Jason

I also discovered that I need a new Rad...now just deciding to go 'recore' or new...any recommendations?

Cheapest I've found for a new rad is $160 + tax (CDN) and as far as codes I haven't looked yet...I want to reset the ECU after work tonight before I do anything else. Just wondering what it could be if the reset doesn't solve the problem...god when we did the swap...the antifreeze in it was "red"!

Re: First Engine Pull...

Check all your vacuum lines for the idle surge, chances are, thats the problem. If they are all correct, then your EACV valve is not liking your new setup.

As for radiators, try and find a 90/93 integra radiator. It fits just fine, and it is a dual core radiator.

I can do a complete swap in 3 hours, into a EF.
