Stock Cobra Tranny
Ok Guys, I was wondering about a stock 96-98 Cobra model and the transmission. Just how much power can it take before something needs to be replaced?

Re: Stock Cobra Tranny
The Borg-Warner T45's found in 96-partial 98's were rated to handle 320 ft-lbs or torque. The T45 in those years are easily weakened when subjected to full force of the Cobra. Shift forks bending, and syncro's wearing excessively were just a few problems. Tremec took over building the T45 sometime in 98 to alleviate the problems.

Re: Stock Cobra Tranny
My cousin owns a 97 Cobra, it is equipped with an Strim Vortech, a full exhaust, a custom chip and 3:73s. I am not sure on the hp numbers but since we crammed the blower on it he has broke the trans twice. It seems to me that the Cobra's weak link is the trans.
