engine conversion

my job has required me to move to deepest darkest africa, and as i need transport i was thinking to build a buggy kit car to use but i would like to know if it is possible to convert a standed beetle engine to run on deisel (deisel is more available then petrol) if not what other deisel motors are available to use, or other kit to build for offroad use

no a gasoline engine can not be converted to diesel, there are too many fundamental differences.
however early diesels can be found in the early 80's rabbits... they will run forever, and don't seem to mind offroad abuse (often took mine down trails and such, muwahhaa)
