does anyone have tips and tricks for 89 escort

Hey i have been looking all over for things i could do to my 89 ford escort to add horsepower. i want to keep the stock 1.9l engine in there right now because it only has 24k miles and im sure i could put another 150k on it so if anyone knows any tips or tricks i would greatly appreciate it.
