Unhappy 85 RX7 Starter problem

My 1985 Mazda RX7 automatic 12A isn't starting. It's making a clicking sound under the hood when I try to turn it over. All the guages and lights work. Battery is good. It has never done this before and always started right away. I think it might be the Starter or the Starter sylinoid. Can anyone give me some advise on additional tests or advise to determine the problem? Thanks.

Re: 85 RX7 Starter problem

Yup its either your starter (bendix is frozen) or your soleniod. I had my Starter rebuilt by a local Starter/Altenator shop. It cost less than $100.

This was for my old 85GS BTW.

Re: 85 RX7 Starter problem

Its a Dudes over at No pistons. I liked it and stole it. I dont have duel exhaust either.

Its pretty cool though. I get 4-5 foot flames when I am racing at the track or a longer Autocross venue.

I will on the street too but only if I am on the interstate boosting hard.

My brother used to co-drive w/ me. He was doing a run in AutoX and the car shot a 4' flame out the back. A spectator screamed "His car is on fire" I started laughing.

hey i have that very same problem with my 84gs.. i have had the starter tested and it works fine.. and the solenoid is new due to the old one breaking during testing.. it almost seems as though the starter itself is not getting anypower to even turn over..
