z24 owners

Hi
I have a 98 z24, which I really love.
It seems to have that same problem I keep reading about where it is over heating, and in the case of mine, the water is boiling, and no matter how much coolant i put in to it, it seems to just eat the stuff, there is no known leak.
Is it the water pump maybe? Are they expensive to fix?
I would like to talk to other z24 owners, also, just to have someone to talk to who loves theirs as much as i love mine

Re: z24 owners

sorry man no probs with over heating yet.. I bought it a month ago, and I drove it to michigan and back to san antonio texas, and put about a good 4000 miles on it, and it ran great the whole time, and I love it... its a 98 and it runs I think just as fast as my 2002 eclipse... my girl gets mad cuz I bought it for her for christmas she had a POS, but I drive it more than my eclipse

Hey, Like you have prob read the other stories of over heating Cavs, if your Cav is overheating then it is prob your water pump. My mom, friend and myself have had to replace our water pumps this year. If you are planning on doing it yourself, be prepared to have the right tools (ie: engine hoist) and alot of time on your hands to fix it yourself. If you are going to take it somewhere to get it done, be prepared to spend $80CAN for the part and $600CAN on the labour. That was the cheapest quote I got. It's known problem in these cars, but once that is fixed they are really good cars to own. Another problem that I had with my car, was the rad cap. It was cracked and I was losing a lot of antifreeze out of there. That was a cheap fix though. Hope that helps....

I have a 97 Z24. Love it! I have never had overheating problems, but I did have to replace the water pump. GM noticed the leak when I had it in to check the suspension (since they didn't fix it right) and offered to fix it for me for $1600 CAD! I literally laughed in the guys face. I bought a new aftermarket pump for $80 CAD and had a friend's mechanic do the work for $350 CAD. It's been running great since.

*** RECOMMENDATION.... if you do get the water pump replaced, MAKE SURE you do the timing chain, guides and pulley's at the same time. The timing chains do not always mesh well with replacement parts and make a ton of racket if they are not replaced. It would really suck if you had to have them pull the engine out again to do the chain and pay another $600! The timing chain set sells for $100 to $150.

Good luck!

Re: z24 owners

Almost two years old! Hopefully he's got the problem fixed now. Maybe if the date was bigger on the left there the noobs would see it, or maybe some type of warning saying, "this thread is really old, are you sure you want to look stupid and bring it back fom the dead?"
