TSI vs. 240sx

hello everyone, my 240sx is up and running great with the sr20 in it and some local guy witha civic ran n told his buddy his tsi would own me??? all i know is this guys runing like 13.9 in his TSI and i got around 275 hp with the current setup so thats like 13.1 in a 240 right? i just don't see a tsi beating me. so i figured i'de see what you guys thought. aperntley this guy shaved the head and rasied his compreshion ratio to like 8.9:1? i never thought it was a good idea to make the compreshion higher is it? anyway apretley hes having turbo problems......cause i dont thinnk he knows much but the magic time is like 13.9 for him. and the stock setup is good for like 300 isn't it? with 3 inch piping a fmic bov boost controler, i gota fuel rail with 850cc injectors in the mail with a fuel presure regulator and fuel presure gauge....i'm saving fora a t3/t4 setup next, what do you guys think?

You cant number-race like that, theres only one way to find out.

The AWD on the TSi is a BIG BIG advantage for launching.

it is a big advantage, but he quickly loses power because of the AWD system, because it sends out power to all four wheels, thus having drivetrain power loss

well i personaly think a worked tsi will seriously hurt a sr 240 in a 1\4 race.. those cars take well to mods and can easily see 12's with all the mods that you described that the guy had he should be running low 13's if not high 12's and if he boost 18psi or more he will have a bigger advantage, with proper fuel managment thoses motors can support up to 22psi stock.. a couple guys on af have tsi and gsx that to mid 12's runs with less then 5'g invested into them. i say be careful. even if he is having turbo problems, btw the sr isnt the best for 1\4 mileit makes hp in hi rmps that is just how the powerband is i seen sr 240s with 350+hp and still only pull mid 13's if they are lucky..

350hp in mid 13's ona 240 sr? i would think that would be good for like 12 seconds. how can one with 250hp run 13.7 but one with 350 only run 13.5?

no traction off the launches they burn off 1's 2nd and sumtimes into third.. i dont know where you seen the 240 running 13.7 with only 250hp... i believe that a stock sr in a 240 will get you around 14.7 and the stock sr has 220hp so i dont soo how a extra 30 hp will gain you a whole second..

My buddy owns a 240, a few months ago we installed a Turbonetics single turbo. To this day I can't believe how much performance he gained. He keeps up with me as close as just a couple of car lengths as long as I don't spray. I run mid 12s without N2O so he is at least in the low 13s.

KA24de...Basic lesson of engines-Long stoke means torque! Ka's are better than sr's for drag-more displacement and more torque...plus theyre cheaper. THats why they respond so well to mods (when done right).

i hear theat the KA24's are better for drag than the SR20's. SR20's are basically for drifting..for some. My bro said he's into drift, if drag, keep the KA24..i kno Tsi AWD's, they are crazy at the laucnh and 1/4 with a couple of mods in them. my cuzin's Tsi AWD has I/H/E, cat-back, and boosted up to 17 psi once, very strong car...

make sure you get wide tires out back. I think you could beat him but you need to launch good and hope. When are you going to race? and are you racing for money? If so get some N2O for a little kick. Like a 50 shot. Then you should beat him.

Your bro is dumb. One of the best drifters in the USA uses a bone stock single cam KA.

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it(as long as its RWD with LSD )

SR20DET being better for "Drift"? Okay thats a fanboy statement, you should be banned.

BUT the SR20 does have a better mid-range which would make it a better road course engine. The KA needs a big turbo which would not be as ideal for track racing, but great for drag...

I'm sorry but I have a friend with a '95 Tsi, and the AWD doesn't really help out that much if the other driver is at all competent. It is stock + a Spearco intercooler. I have driven it and raced it. The added weight is not worth the traction gained. You have to be making serious HP for that to matter. I can still work my friend's WRX that is highly modded by a hair, and that's with some nice smokey burnouts.

ok so givin both cars runin mid 13's....htis thread is old for the refrance tho.......we racee 2wice 1 dead start 1 rol start...........the roll i won by a car and the dead start i was down by bought a car we raced weer like good friendsi trew in 50 bucks i did the roll on cause i knew i'de win....i spun off the line a good bit......so i'll be interesting when i get some good tires n a good LSD but yeah roll on he pulled a bit in 2nd 3rd was dead even n 4th i was like woah i just shot forward...good race i had fun
