Bose system problems/options

I've got a 1990 Audi 200 with a factory bose system. Of the 6 speakers, only the two front right and the rear left work. And the rear left distorts like crazy. It also has this sickening whine when the engine is running that is apparently a grounding issue, and the dead speakers could possibly also be due to loose wires.

I've tried getting at the back of the stereo to check the wires and the ground wire, but all of that goes deeper into the dashboard than I was willing to dig, so I want to take it to a professional, just so it can get running how it's supposed to before I weigh options for aftermarket stereos.

Question I have is, can I replace the bose speakers with aftermarket and still keep the bose deck and amps? Can I switch decks and keep the Bose speakers and amps? Can I at least switch up to a newer bose deck with a cd player. Where would I go to have that done, because I couldn't figure out how to get the damn deck out Bose specialist? Audi dealership? Dedicated ICE place (Like Tweeters, rather than Best Buy or Good Guys)?

And why the hell does bose think it's the end-all-be-all of stereo systems and that nobody would ever dare want to change any part of it? Grr.

Don't go to tweeters, go to a car audio place, no best buy. They should be able to replace stuff for you. Depending on what you want to spend you can get some good speakers. I don't know whether you can keep the deck or amp, but I doubt it on the amp.

no, no, and I don't know if you can simply upgrade the deck to a newer Bose one

Bose is one of those companies I can't stand, but I won't clutter up your thread with a rant. If you plan on upgrading the system anyway there's no point in getting this one working first since you can't keep any part of it when you upgrade. It's really up to you though
