I just got back from a year in Iraq, to find that my Firebird was not taken care of. So, until I get that one fixed, I have to drive, Clifford, my ranger. Here's the thing...the belt is squeaking bad. It's loud and very annoying. Does anyone know any quick fixes that will hold me out until my car is done. Its embarrassing.

Spray some belt dressing on it or just take a bar of soap and hold it on the belt until it is coated good. Quick fix I have done it many times.

Re: I need help
Careful! I have had my left index finger removed by a belt. Shoving your hands into a moving auto belt is not very sound advice. The noise could also be a bearing that is beginning to seize. Before all the quick dressing tips. Take the time to pull the v-belts or the serpentine belts and double check the pulley bearings. It may seem time consuming but could be catastrophic while driving.

It night not be the belt, it could be shot bearing in you alternator. To be sure take a wooden broom stick and hold it to the pully, and the other end to you ear, it should help you pin point the noise. Check and see if you alternator is charging, and also, make sure the belt is seated properly, and a new serpintine belt will only run ya like 10 bucks at autozone.
