1982 240D not running
I have a 1982 240D mercedes diesel.
I was out of fuel and poured old diesel fuel into the tank. It still won't turn over. Someone said I need to "Prime it". Is that correct? How do I prime it? Is there anything else I should be doing to get it to run? |

Re: 1982 240D not running
you say it won,t turn over?or do you mean it won,t fire?any way if you ran out of fuel, the filter will be dry and possibly causing an air lock.if you can, try pouring fuel into the filter, and slightly undo two injectors at the pipe unions and try to start, this will help to release any air in the system.but be prepared to flatten your battery!!

I hope that you have it running by now. If not, you need to prime the pump. Just below and to the left of the in-line plastic fuel filter (found near the oil dipstick), you'll see a 1 1/4" diameter wheel. That is the top of the priming pump. Turn the wheel counterclockwise and lift it up and down. You'll note some movement of the air bubbles in the filter. Keep pumping until the air bubbles disappear, and pump a few more times. This puts fuel in the injection pump. Turn the wheel clockwise when you are done.
Now charge the battery and start the car. |
