Red face Question about possible damage...

I hit a 2001 Dodge Durango in the front left front part of the tire, hitting the tire, and nothing else. The Durango was at a standstill at the time - the tire did move in a little bit.

I hit the tire going maybe 5-7 mph, probably less, I'm really not sure. After the impact, the front left tire was pushed a little inwards - meaning that both tires were moved a little to the right.

What I'd like to know is, what kind of damage could this have caused? When they brought it in some certain suspension parts were fixed? We still need to find out what exactly was fixed, we conveniently didn't get the first page to the invoice. Then, they drove the car for 2 weeks after the repairs until they finally got the alignment done? Umm, that didn't make any sense to me.

Any and all suggestions people can offer would be very great.

Thank You.

Since the front suspension of ANY vehicle is not designed to take stress/impact in the direction in which it was hit (lateral), a NUMBEr of componants could have been damaged...frame damage could have happened as well.....

The speed that you are talking about is actually enough to do quite a bit of damage to a vehicle......

A number of years back, I was pulling out into an intersection and was "t-boned" by someone....a little more speed than you mention though....My truck (a Dodge D-50 mini truck 4x4) sustained suspension damage in the form of a bent steering knuckle....plus body damage....Everything else hung in there pretty well, but the knuckle was majorly tweeked.

Aside from steering knuckle damage, anything from balljoints to pitman arms/idler arms, to rim damage to front frame damage could have been incured....

From the sound of your post, you sound like you are absorbing the cost of the repairs??

DZ.
