Re: bought a 92' rs not sure what to expect any help would be great!
yeah man, with a TBI 305, 92RS is THE guy to talk to. as far as the rest of the car, start with a posi or torsen rear end. the torsen you can get out of a fourth gen camaro or firebird, bolts right into the third gen, even has the same part numbers for the bearrings. also comes with 3.23 gears or 3.42 gears if your lucky enough to find it. that would be a great improvement over the open rear with what i am assuming are 2.73 gears. do you have an auto trans, probly a good idea to rebuild it with a shift kit and a corvette 1st to 2nd servo. B&M sells a transkit that is a high performance rebuild kit, all new clutches and whatnot and a shift kit included. thats whats in my new trans, havent put it in yet, but ill let eveyone know how it worked when i get around to it. ill post a thread on it. also, suspention, look into eibach for springs, hotchkiss for suspension bits, and i would go with edelbrock IAS shocks. for a daily driver. subframe connectors are a must if you are gonna be driving around twisties or are gonna put big power in teh car. aside from that, the normal stuff, better heads, bigger cam, K&N filters, higher compression, all that, for specifics, talk to 92RS, hes the man for the 305. i can help with other stuff, like engine design, with temp and anti friction coatings, and baby bearings for ofset strokes and stuff, but that might be a bit above where you are at right now. but if your interested let me know.

Re: bought a 92' rs not sure what to expect any help would be great!
hey guys thanks for replying. but yai got a auto tranny and it is already posi. but i was wondering how much that shift kit u were talking about costs. i mean the engine is rebuilt already but it came with another engine that is also a 305 and i beleive the guy said it isn't rebuilt or anything special... so i could put the kit in that one and switch em or something so i dont' got to mess with the engine in it. i can work on the one that is already out of the car be a lot easier.. but yeah how much is that shift kit and new headers and stuff.. thanks alot
i jus need the basics for now i am still a youngster lol almost 16. |

Re: bought a 92' rs not sure what to expect any help would be great!
I got them same headers. You talking about the TES right?? For 125 from a guy on ebay. To bad I just used it for the headers and not the Ypipe. Good stuff though none the less. Something about a part that is made to fit your car. Saves a lot of time with work and fabrication. I hate that. But as far as the tranny goes..not all of us work at the dealership and get that kind of rebuild price. Lucky ass.

well below is all the stuff i did to my 91 teal rs.. they have potential .. i would says where your going to fel the biggest gains are with headers/ y-pipe and 3inch cat and exhaust and rearend .. i went from stock to posi 323.. and once you have some good mods done then switch out the stock converotr to something between 2000-2400 .. thats a big gain too.. you can do alot without even getting into the heads and cam..
91 RS performance mods: 323 posi rear, spohn lca's and panhard rod with relocation brackets,ls1 driveshaft, built 700r4 trans with slp 2400 converter, b+m trans cooler, stewart stage 2 water pump, 1 5/8 edelbrock headers with 3' flowmaster exaust, 3 inch catco cat, edelbrock tbi intake, worked tbi unit, msd distributor and msd wires and k+n filter apperance mods: mcewing white guage faces, b+m mega shifter, billit petals, centerline rims, rear window tinted with taillight covers, 8 speakers, 2 amps , 2 12' subs

Re: bought a 92' rs not sure what to expect any help would be great!
92 rs thats a nice car i see ya still have the 305. you can make them perform pretty well wit some decent power. they're good engines in the long haul if u want to know what to expect i had a family station wagon with a 305 280000 miles didnt even leak oil as long as u take care of em they'll run forever i myself am stroking my 305 in my monte carlo to a 334 bored .030 over with a 400 crank and rotating assembly. good luck wit the car and welcome to AF.

thanks man, here is what i am hoping to do i got the prices and everything already i wanna get the edelbrock T.E.S headers i also want a K&N chrome air filter maybe a B&M transkit.. can i put that B &M transkit on a manual? also some kool tires like some mickey thompsons or the kumho ecsta supra 712 tires, unless u guys know of some sweeter street tires for a daily driver car.i already have a hood scoop and some cragar rims... i don't think that is bad for a start, is it?
