my o4 spec-v horror story

Ok I bought my brand new blackout spec-v with nismo exaust and a few little extras. It ran fine and I put 3000 miles on it in about an month and a half. I wasn't racing anybody but from time time I would get on it nothing that should cause a real problem. So I get of work and i'm driving home when a terrible knocking sound started in the engine bay. I thought to myself, "that sounds like a crank rod about to go." But that's impossible at 3000 miles right. So it's about 10 miles to my house and the noise starts to get worse to that point that I know somthing bad is about to happen. About 100 yards to my driveway I put it in third and punched it. About 15 yards from my house I threw the rod right through the oil pan. Smoke was pouring out of the engine bay and the car was dead. I had to push it into my driveway. At first I was really pissed but after I calmed down and remembered why a bought a brand new car I just had to laugh about it. It's just my luck that something like this would happen to me. So I woke up in the morning and called the dealer and ten minutes later there was a tow truck picking up my car. 3 days later I got it back with a brand new engine(which if it wasn't under warranty would have been 6000 dollars parts and labor.) I was really impressed by the service department and the timely manner they fixed my car. The guy in the service department said nissan ship them a new engine overnight because they wanted the other one back in a hurry to figure out what went wrong and make sure a recall isn't in order. Has anyone else hit 3000 on their 04 spec-v's yet and has anyone else had any problems? I have about 800 miles on the new engine and everything is great. I just hope it stays that way because i love this car. Well thanks for listening.

Angry Same deal w/ my 03

Dude you were very lucy to find a dealer like that. My girl works at the dealer were my Spec came from. And she works directly for the owner. So the service manager will do his job or else. With my car I was told by the service advisor that a screw from the intake may have popped out and lodged it self in one the cylinders. So I know a new motor will be on its way. If they thing I will settle for anything less, all hell will break lose.My car has nismo parts 18 inch rims. thinking of adding a header system, but I like the way the car sounds. Its very mellow.along with a cat back exhaust system. Well right now I'am driving a jetta from the dealer I will no something by this weekend.
Well my story should have a happy ending also, noting its under factory warranty and extended version also. with only 8000 on it. laters Dude

Re: my o4 spec-v horror story

a friend who i work with at best buy had his motor go at 3500 miles. the dealer replaced it within 3 days. he's got 10k on the current motor and it's been fine. he even has some aftermarket parts on his car such as an intake and header and they still replaced it.
personally this car is on my top four to check out when i go to purchase a new car.

Re: my o4 spec-v horror story

I have had tooo many problems with my 03 v spec.
@20k miles 2 of 4 coils rattled loose. I drove it home 50m on 2 running cylinders.also recently I wore a hole, bigger than a 50cent peice, though the stock headers. they replaced it, but now my engine is shot. there was a realy loud knocking sound that progressivly got worse. I pulled over and found no oil at all in my engine. Im calling king nissan tomorrow hopefuly they will replace it. my car is literally falling apart I don't know what to do!!!!

Re: my o4 spec-v horror story

Dude i think it was just your bad luck man.....i also have a 2004 spec v on it and yeah without a doubt it's a bad ass car man....i have about almost 12,000 miles on it and I punch it all the time and to me it seems that the more i beat on it the better it rides.....i just added a injen cold air intake and a magnaflow exhaust....if you decide that you want more power and looks to your car u would want to go with the injen cold air intake and definetly a magnaflow exhaust. those two combinations make your car sound a hell of alot meaner, and improves the pick up and power....well good luck to ya man....

Re: my o4 spec-v horror story

I've heard horror stories such as flawed engine blocks where the casting left a hole and the owner burned up the motor (Ford Mustang), and missing an oil ring in the #2 piston (67 Chevy) but I rarely hear about Nissan replacing motors.

I'm glad they fixed it so quickly.

Re: my o4 spec-v horror story

Speaking about fix ups, I have a '02 Spec V and was wondering, is it possible to install an '04 Spec V engine into an '02 Spec V. I heard the newer QR25s have had some improvements since 2002. How much would something like that cost? Thanks.

here's my horror story

i was on the way home from the lake with one of my friends, and i decided to let him drive my 02 SE-R cuz i was really tired and worn out, well we were following his brother home when he went to pass his brother, and his brother swerved at us to keep us from passing him which caused my friend to swerve off of the road and he over corrected sending us to the opposite side of the road. I was asleep in the passenger seat by the way. Next thing i remember i wsa layin face down in the grass, come to find out he had rolled my SE-R 6 times throwing me and some friends out of the car, it threw me forty yards, im lucky to be alive.
Oh, and i only had the car a month.
