New to Jeeps, Have a model ?
I am new to the forum and looking at purchasing my first jeep.
I spoke to a well known and respected jeep mechanic today and he went through alot of information with me to use in searching for a good used Jeep. He told me preferrably try to find a Jeep TJ model instead of a Jeep YJ model. I forgot to ask him why, but can anyone here tell me what the difference between the TJ and the YJ would be ? Thanks alot. Rico334 |

OK a YJ is a Wranagler model year 1987 to 1996. They're the ones with square dealights. A TJ is a Wrangler model year 1997 to present (there was no 1996 model Wrangler). Drive train wise they are almost the same, not quite but almost. Some YJ's had a vaccum disconnect front axle while TJ's do not. But the main difference is the suspension, YJ's use leaf springs and TJ's use coils. TJ's generally ride smoother and have better articulation. Both are fun and easy to mod. Check out www.jeepin.com that forum get alot of traffic and we are more than willing to help out the newbs.
