Police & Christmas

As I was cruising home on Christmas Eve going 80 mph at night, I decided to punch my engine for a second (speed limit is 75 mph on I-10 freeway). I obtain speed of 98 mph. Then I saw the flash of red/blue lights from the bushes. I immediately pull over.

The officer asked me how fast I think I was going. I told him 94 mph. He said he clock me going 92 mph (good to tell the truth). Then officer told me it's criminal to speed over 86 mph (Arizona). I told officer that I was in hurry because my girlfriend car got broken into (true!) He asked me what would happen if my tire exploded. I just look at him honestly said I know. He said he could had taken me to jail but he going to give me a civil speeding ticket. Then he wishes me a merry christmas.

1) What will my D15b7 do?
2) So I guess it’s less dangerously if your tire explodes going 80 mph.
3) Do you think I got a break because it was Christmas?
4) Should I had a radar detector (do they really work) ?

Re: Police & Christmas

1) What will my D15b7 do? Your Speed Limiter is 115-120MPH, since your 4th gear will only run up to about 110MPH, a D15b7 will struggle to go much higher than that because your 5th gear is so low (as in slow RPM) of gear. I would say it could eventully do 130 if you had a strong tailwind, no speed limiter, and a long flat cop free road. So your never going to be able to hit your rev limiter in 5th gear.

2) So I guess it’s less dangerously if your tire explodes going 80 mph. first off thats alot of BS from the cop unless you have crap-o tires. But say you hit something sharp that instantly gives you a blowout, your basicly screwed if your going over like 65 unless your a really good driver.

3) Do you think I got a break because it was Christmas? maybe, but if you have a clear record and since you were honest with him, he probably just let you off.

4) Should I had a radar detector (do they really work) ?
well without getting into a big old shouting match with ppl over my oppion, i'm just going to say that they work for radar, but the technology the cops are using is constantly getting better and changing into different things, so your constantly going to have buy a new unit. And remember, theres always visual from the cop.

thanks Jake,

I guess everybody is basically screwed if their tire blowout going over 65 mph. Maybe its good to have a front strut bar.

CB radio > radar detector
I've found detectors are only good for when you're not speeding and a cop is using radar. That way it'll go off and you'll know NOT to speed. My personal opinion (though very hypocritical) is just to not speed at all..

A front (or rear for that matter) strut bar/brace won't help in that situation. That is where sheer driver skill and how well you can handle your car in specific siuations will come into play. But unless you're driving an Explorer with under inflated Firestones, or driving 130mph on T rated tires, then a blow out isn't very likely. I mean it can happen at any time, but it's just rare.

Re: Police & Christmas

Well, depends on your car also, if your tire blows up at 85 mph in a lowered ferrari modena probably nothing will happen, take that example on a stock civic dx and youll probably get fucked. If you have a low car, good tires, and big rims dont think a lot will happen, youll be able to control the car. If you have lets say 18 inch wheels with 35 heigh wheels if it blows up, the car will go down so little. An inch compared to 6 inches on other wheels. It all depends on the car, the size of the wheels, quality of tires, road...etc....

Actually, I've seen vids of Modenas lose it on the track with a blow out, and also from just pushing the limit too much on a banked oval track. In both cases, the driver was luckily able to get the car under control before a wreck happened, but NO car is immune to the effects of a high speed blowout, not even pro race cars.
