I am a beginner and I'm looking to buy an car or truck. Which type electric or gas would better suit me? I do want to be able to modify it in the future. What should I be looking for?
Thanks |

for a beginner, i would have to say go with electric. You will be able to modify anything out there. Do you think that you will ever get into racing with it?

I'm not sure. Right now, I'm just looking to have fun with it.

sounds like me when i started, now im trying to get into racing, but i usually can't. what i think you should do, is find out if there are any paved tracks, and go and watch the cars. Then look for dirt tracks and watch the trucks and buggy's run. From there decide which kind u like better, the touring cars which are fast through the corners, the pan cars which have amzing acceleration and top end potental, the buggies which are usually the fastest offroad vehicles, or the trucks that can usually take any punishment you give them and not break, like my stampede. on of the eariler times when i was running my stampede, before i even replaced the motor, i was running it up the ramp in the sidewalk to on the side walk, and then jumping off(which was about 1.5 feet). I hit the edge of the cement sidewalk at about 15-20 mph 3 times before anything broke. The only thing that broke was the tiny stock bumper, nothing else. It has since taken much worse punishment and kept going, ask me for specifics if youd like.

Off road: Stampede or Rustler
On Road: Go with a Tamiya. They are EXTREMELY easy to build because of their always excelent instructions. If this is your first RC car, go with the TL01. It's very simple, however, you can't upgrade it that much, so if you plan to race, go with an HPI car.

If you want to race, the most ajustable two belt touring car is being distributed by serpent, its the Xray T1. I dont know if it is in hobby stores yet, but you can change everything from the damping force of the shock to the adjusting the ball diff's tightness without major disasembly. In fact you can change just about everything without any major disasembly. Its brand new to the market and hasnt been tested yet so if this is gonna be your car, wait until its been in a few races and see the reports from the owners. But i think HPI would be the best for you if you want to get into racing. I had no trouble building my RS4 MT.

for a beginner i would not suggest gas. Although the sound and performance are great, it is alot harder to maintain. u can throw an electric car in the corner and get away with it (at least for a little bit) before any damage will be done. If you do that with a gas car/truck, the performance will decrease rapidly and you will probaly need to replace the engine soon.
