Re: 94 engine swap

best is to keep the ka and put in a turbo.. you can do a sr20 swap but is kinda pricey..

ka? or sr? 4ur 1st gen altima

This is 1 of the most controversial topics. Keep the KA24DE and turbo it, or swap it out for a SR20DET?
1st i want 2 give my 2 cents on the bluebird front clip idea. It has a flaw. Front clip swaps r great 4 the 240sx's doin conversions 2 silvia's since its a chop & drop deal. The clip literally can be tack whelded to rear clip of the U.S. 240sx & the tranny would latch on to the rear clip with some minor modification &/or fabrication. The engine bay is already set up so little engine work would be done unless for other reasons (emissions, other parts, etc.). Seems simple but it usually takes on average a week, 2 a month, depending on experience and laziness of whos doin it.
With the Altima ur not jus droppin in, boltin on the tranny, & then tack whelding the frames together. A FWD, non-turbo, leftside drive U.S.altima changed 2 a 4WD, turbo, riteside drive bluebird. Thats alot of work and lots of time. oh and way 2 much money. Ur not just changing the font of the car now, its 4WD, so the whole car has to be gutted and replaced, rear especially since before it wasn't ment as a 4WD car.
Im not saying its a bad idea. Its jus not cost effective 2 do a conversion wen ur practically replacing the whole car, whens its likely 2 B cheaper and easier 2 buy & import a orginal from the "land of the rising sun" or the "land down under". Its still not cheap, but less work, hassel & maybe even less money. If you want more info on the Bluebird drop a line.

SR20DET engine swap is drifferent however and has been done. parts r:
Sentra SER, Infiniti G20t, 200sx, or anyother front wheel drive transmission that supports a SR20 engine. If you can find one that went with a turbo SR20 that would be much better.
The engine itself you can order but ask a mechanic or shop on specifics.
The ECU can be sent to Jim wolf Technologies to be reprogramed to accept the new set up.
Smaller support parts r needed also inorder to keep the engine functioning in a safe capacity. example: sr20det's are known for over heating. so buy intercooler, larger radiator, add a extra radiator fan or more powerful one.
other things like oil intercoolers, S-AFC's, turbo timers, better injectors, larger fuel rail or fuel pump, lower compression pistons and so on.
i have info on this swap also if ur interested.

KA24DET (bolt on turbo kit)
Ok... this is my personal favorite. it cost roughly $3500, but it bolts right on to the stock engine. The kit comes with everthing you need to keep ur car running at a safe level and continue to use it as a daily driver. At 8psi it gives 100hp gain and thats for daily driving. at the flywheel that puts a GXE 93-97 at 250hp for just driving around town. at the wheel im guessing more like 220hp tho. he KA24DE has a high rpm (or high end) power band i think its called? but once it hits 3600rpms the car starts to pull cuz its at its peak out put. plus because of turbo lag, when the rpms hit 3500-4000rpm range, u most likely with spin the tires in 2nd and churp them in 3rd. with minor to extensive engine work, u can also start to boost higher than 8psi. i think the report showed the test car push 24psi with a 400hp gain, but keep in mind this engine probably had extensive work done to it. if you boost too high u will blow ur engine, melt the pistons or both, so don't get boost happy. this option i prefer since its the most simple and i get to use the KA24. the 2.4L is a large engine and holds so much potential. sportcompact mag, actually had 95 altima, make it into the top 25 street cars for 2001 or 2002. he not only had a kit but nitros plus engine mods (cams, cam shaft, etc). His car ran low 10's and high 9's....
as far as super chargers, there is no kit for 93-97 that i kno about, and i think the largest engine you can swap without enlarging the engine bay would be 240z or 280zx. don't quote me on that its jus off the top of my head.
if i missed any information that sumone thinks is crucial sorry im just goin off the top of my head. if any inforation is incorrect please correct it so there can be as little miss understanding as possible. sorry if i rambled im a lil sleepy now. Good luck with ur car. u need any help drop a line...
