I don't think it stands for something, just the model of the civic.

DX, LX, EX, HX, SI

I think that's how it goes, I know that SI is the fastest of civics and EX has all the options. Hope that helps?

Re: 1998 Honda Civic HX

The EX is faster than the HX, if you meant to place them in order from slowest to fastest.

Yep... so:

DX, LX, HX, EX, SI

SiR -- is that above SI? I'd guess so, BTW you have a sweet civic, love the lights.

Re: 1998 Honda Civic HX

thanks man
The SiR is the same as an Si, but it's just what they call it in other countries i.e. Canada, Mexico etc. However, in those other countries they do have Si's, but they have 127hp sohc vtec engines, same as an EX.

DX and LX have the same engine so they should be a match.

I thought the LX has a few more hp? Not that they'll run 2 seconds faster in the 1/4 or anything..

nope, the DX and LX have the same engine. 115 hp and 110 ft-lbs torque. and its sohc non-VTEC. the EX and HX are sohc VTEC. the HX is a lean burn engine making it go more miles per gallon than the DX and LX. 36 mpg on city and 44 mpg on freeway if am not mistaken. and has 117 hp and 111 ft-lbs torque. EX is the fastest of the four not including the Si. the EX has something like 127 hp and 114 ft-lbs torque.

I don't mean to keep splitting hairs, but the DX has 106hp.

we may have misunderstood each other then. maybe your were trying to say 6th generation civics 1.6L, which i do believe you are correct at 106 hp. i was giving the sepcs of the 7th generation civics 1.7L just as a reference to which one was faster of the civics. my bad.
