Lancer Upgrades

Ok don't know if I'm the right place, but here i go. I own a '97 lancer(semi-automatic), and would like to do some upgrades to it to improve it's horsepower, etc. Now i'm not a mechanic or engine oriented person, more into car audio. Anyway, just would like some ideas of what to do to improve it's performance. Don't want anything extreme, like a turbo, just minor upgrades, that give output. All you'll help is welcomed. If you want any info.,don't be afraid to ask. Thanx
