Well, I had the pleasure of buying my first truck on Friday. We weren't planning on getting one until about April, but my husband's uncle happened to be selling his, and we know he takes excellent care of all his vehicles. It only had 17,600 miles on it, and he kept it in a shed, never outside.
Here's the pics we have so far: ![]() ![]() ![]() You'll have to bear with me here, I never learned much about cars when I was younger, I've had to learn everything in the past few years, so there's a lot I don't know ![]() Here's what I'd basically like to do with it: Grill guard Taillight guards Larger tires (not yet, we're waiting until these hit their limit, around 40,000 miles) Nerfbars (when we get the larger tires) Rollbar (maybe - not sure yet) Bed rails Bug shield Bowtie decal in the back window Bowtie hitch cover Fix the CB antenna (he left us his CB because he said it doesn't work great, but it might just be the antenna going bad. We'll see if fixing that works) There's probably more I've forgotten about... I just pretty much want to snazz it up a bit. I really don't know where to start though - what brands are good, which ones to stay away from, which order I should do things in, where I should get it done (or if I can do it myself - I have friends who are good with cars), where I should order parts from (or can I pick certain things up at, say, AutoZone), things like that. So, any help you all could give me would be great. I really appreciate it! |

Re: New Silverado owner - a few questions!
All of what you want to do sounds good. Great looking truck, by the way! Most, if not all can be done by you and yours. As for brands, check some truck publications and local auto parts stores. There are just so many to choose from. Ask some people you trust, and go with your instincts. Good luck!

Re: New Silverado owner - a few questions!
Good List. Here is my .02
Grill guard- GM can get you a nice one through Luverne for about $320. Taillight guards - Luverne or WAAG Larger tires (not yet, we're waiting until these hit their limit, around 40,000 miles) - Look into the BFG TA KO series tires. EXCELLENT tire!!! Nerfbars - TONS of choices ICI makes a good set for cheap. Google "ICI" Rollbar (maybe - not sure yet) Bed rails - also many choices Google it Bug shield - GM has a decent one, I recommend Bugflector which is avail at almost any major parts store. Bowtie decal in the back window - go to www.stripeman.com and see if he has anything you like. You can customize your decal there (color, effects etc). Bowtie hitch cover - Check your dealer for a crome bowtie with red border. Pretty Sharp. I would also suggest losing the emblems on the side and having your fender flares painted to match. Tint those front windows too. Have them tinted to match the rear as close as possible. This will give you a "Clean" sleek look. Have fun with it!!!! Big Red.

Here's what I did with my '98 Z71 and it was sharp!!!
Just wish I had a picture to show you (don't know how to post it) -took off all body side molding, chrome trim on fenders, stickers & emblems (I like the plain look) added: -Ventshades -Dark tint -Color coded wiper cowl -Color coded bug deflector -Color coded after market grille -Moon visor -Smoothie roll pan -Gibson Cat back exhaust dual entry out the back with tips -K & N Filter -Bedliner (it could have something to do with a female owning a truck, but I had several compliments on it!!!.) I just bought an '04 and can't wait to modify it. One thing about the '04 I don't like is the front end sits lower than the back. Not sure why GM does that, but I feel like I'm riding in a car! (My '92 & '98 sat level - never had to adjust) First thing I'm going to do is adjust the torsion bars to see if that helps among many other additions. Hope you have as much fun with your Chevys as I do mine!!! |

Re: New Silverado owner - a few questions!
have most of what your looking for installed on silver 2000 (check Gallery) all installs where easy except rolll bar was time consuming but it was sectional and took a while to get it positioned to mark for drill holes and the lift but you didn't mention that.
stylinconcepts.com has great selection but their are a lot of other good sites just do a search for what you are looking for. there are a couple sites to compare prices . highly recommend spray in bed liner (rino). try to aviod crome plated spend the extra money and get stainless (no worries about peeling ,chipping ,rusting) roll bar is crome and it started rustind and peeling after the first year even with regular washing and waxing, every thing else is stainless and looks like new. don't thing you should remove emblems or paint fender flares pesonaly think the contrast gives more caracter but it's your truck the only opinion that counts is yours. Your new truck looks nice good luck. if you want any info on the accessories on my truck send me a PM. |
