I HAVE AN 87' CAMARO WITH A 5.0. When I try to turn it off, it idles for about 5 seconds then sputters off. It does'nt seem to be dieseling, but I could be wrong. Anybody got any ideas?

It might be your ignition switch.

Sounds like the idle is set too high...adjust the solenoid on the carb but if you have FI, then just shut the car off in drive - that's what I used to do when I needed to replace my carb gasket - too much air was coming in and I couldn't turn the car off without it dieseling

seen this problem before, here's the fix. got to your nearest hardware store and get a door hing. bolt that puppy to your carb or throttle body so it hinges away from the manifold. reason being, if it wont shut off, you can just flip the carb or throttle body away from the manifold so the engine cant get gas-no gas-cant run. problem solved
