Question Ways to increase HP?

I have a 1990 LTD crown victoria LX. I was wondering if anyone out there can help me increases my HP for cheap money. Because i have a 302 5.0L V8 and i already put in a K&N air filter, Auto lite platinum plugs, MSD superconductor wires, MSD cap and rotor, and a Flowmaster Muffler.

Thanks for the help

Dual exhaust

I would put dual exhaust on your car to free up some horse power. Mabbay a HO motor swap if you wanted to do that. I put a custom cold air intake on my 86 Crown Victoria LTD with a 5.0 and felt like it made a little more power.

if you still have single exhaust... definitely go to duals!

that will give you the best bang for the buck and lead the way for future mods.

Re: Ways to increase HP?

I have an 89 grand marquis, i just bought a supercharger for it and did ignition, fuel mods, gauges, weight reduction, and a few other things to it. i am working on putting new gears into it. will be 3.73 b/c now, with 8 lbs of boost with stock gearing and aod trans, i run 13.2 @ 101 in the 1/4 so i hope to drop it to a 11 or 12 with the new gears. but goodluck with your car!!

Re: Ways to increase HP?

i owned several crown vics, with years ranging from 81 to 1989. my first crown vic was an 88. here's what i did to this car and it ran much, MUCH faster and top speed seemed unlimited.... pulled parts off of a used 5.0 HO out of an 87 mustang (dont use the lincoln or thunderbird ones!!!) pulled the heads off and FULLY ported these suckers, next was using the upper and lower intake manifold( with the mustang injectors, also use the computer that came with the mustang, and MAP SENSOR , port the inside of the upper manifold as much as possible!! change the timing chain! now, we all know the upper intake is pointed towards the pasenger side, right? well, FLIP it around to the other side. no, here's the only "major" work you will need to do. and it's really easy. you will use your throttle body (your old one ...non HO), shaft and use it in your new HO throttle body, so that you can use your stock linkage and stuff. all you do is remove the HO throttle plate, remove your old throttle plate too! look at the grove that the old throttle plate "sat" in , size it up with the new one, take a hacksaw blde (blade only) and carefully (with rag over blade that you hand is on) enlarge the slot so the new one will fit. now after your done, you need to try it out in the throttle body itself, so in case it sticks, you just need do do a little jerry riggin to make it work like a new one...........now, if you want to, if you ever pull the moter out maybe for a simple bearing, rings chain, oil pump, this would be the time to do it. i didn't at first, but later i pulled the engine to do the "simple" rebuild. my cylinders were in good shape. i took a dingle hone, or the tool you need to get the cross hatch back in the cylinders, and installed for the second time...TOTAL SEAL GAPLESS TOP RINGS//////WOW! these were awesome! example....1st time i used them... my cranking compression before on a small block chevy 400 was 170ish lbs..... after i installed these...it went to 200lbs. and my holley vacuum secondary carb was LOVING it. it sounded like i had dual 4 barrels on it..... anyways we were talking about FORDS....lol
all of these mods will work, and everything should work like it did in the mustang car, except you will have ported heads.... this is the HUGEST MOD you can do to your 302!!! not only do you pocket port, do the valve guidalso, just thin it up, gasket match the intake on the head, but don't touch the intake manifold itself, at least not at the very front of the port, go deep insdie instead, YOU REALLY WILL GET GOOD FLOW RESULTS IF YOU DO>>>>>>>do the LAP JOB ON THEM>>>>>see were the valve seat touchs the valve? ok the rest of the metal above that "SEAT>>>>romove it with a fine stone on a DREMEL TOOL>>>>you will now have a super high flowing set of valves..... i can not stress this enough... example... i had a grand marqui (1986) 5.0......i only used a set of ported head from a 1992 mustang (stock heads have a different combustion chamber that is "heart shaped"...they suck!!) anyways..... i used the heads (had stock "wimpy cam") and i raced from take off my dad 1991 crown vic (completely stock and in perfect condition), and i BLEW his doors in right from take off. quarted mile speeds were like 74 miles per hour for my dads, and mine was "i think (good guess, judging from the race) was probably 84 miles per hour.... now thats with the car with just the HEADS!!!
the 1988 i had, that i did everything to, and this is no lie, would pull SIDE BY SIDE with a LT! roadmaster!! i was pretty proud of myself....
so the moral of this story is dont go out and buy all this garbage that stores try to tell you you NEED! see, i have this junk yard that i can pull parts off of cars, so i didn't need to buy the whole motor for 300 or 350. i would guy that crown vic i had probably a good 225 horse power to the ground, and TQ was in the neighborhood of 290.
if you want more power......simple!!!!
listen to this..... instead of the speed density computer and cam, get the wiring harness froma 1991 and computer, also mass air sensor, have comp cam CUSTOM GRIND you this cam... 256INT/264EXH [email protected]/[email protected] LIFT?---.500 INT/.500 EX... and NO, you dont need new springs, just check PV clearance...
i had a magnum roller from comp that i stuck in a 86 grand margui that was a single pattern mag 270 with [email protected] and .533 lift....so, you'll be ok.....
after this stuff, use a set of shorty (non equal lenght!!) headers for the mustang EFI, get the X pipe, and you know the rest...
after this you should know what to do.... you'll have a good 260 hp and a solid 300 tq through out a wide rpm range.....
hope my tips help lead you in a good direction....
