Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

Infini was an after tuner sort of like AMG is to Mercedes. They only made Japanese models. Sort of like the 96' Mazdaspeed RX-7 A-Spec was an Japan only model. *hint*

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

They made one that was left hand drive for a car show (if i remember correctly in florida, but I'm not really sure), but it was immediately sent back to japan.

I though Infini is best considered as Mazda's "Skunk Works"

Right,

Infini is to Mazda as Lexus is to toyota, and Infiniti is to nissan

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

I had no idea it was a sister company. Usually the car is rebadged. i.e. 350Z and G-35 are basically the same car but not really and they are rebadged.

I swore I read that Infini took RX-7's from the Mazda assembly line and tweeked them. Then took the Mazda insignia off and replaced it w/ an Infini badge. But the RX-7 badge stayed,

Thats why I compared it to AMG because that is the same deal Mercedes has w/ them same car w/ tweeks.

No, you are quite mistaken.

Jim, you are right.

The Infini RX-7 was an aftermarket tuned Mazda RX-7, not another company that made RX-7's.
Countless other car makers do this. For example:
Ford and SVT
Honda and Spoon
Porsche and RUF
like Jim said, Mercedes and AMG

Get the idea?

"No, you are quite mistaken."

Actually I am right...

Go to http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/history.html#EFI

then go to "Efini / Infini Name Explanation"

Mazdaspeed is Mazda's aftermarket tuner not infini.

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

I am at a loss what that linked proved its a buch of people expressing their opinions and disagreeing with each other.

I remembered where I had read about Infini.

Quote:
Infini had become synonymous with Mazda "skunk works" projects, and a special RX-7,
Source - Sports Car Color History - Mazda RX-7 by John Matras

Maybe I am misunderstanding what I am reading. I was under the impression "skunk works" was a designation for an after tuner like as said before AMG.

Re: Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

That site is some guy explaining to another about the name explanation. The paragraph with the ">" in front of each line is i guess some email he got and he is just explaining it.

"Actually, the 2nd gens in Japan (and 1st gens) were sold in Japan(and elsewhere) under the Savanna banner. Mazda uses a few different names in Japan (like Ford w/ Mercury here in the States). For example. you have(had) the Savanna FC, Eunos Roadster (miata), and the Eunos Cosmo. With the FDs, Mazda put them under their "Efini" label. It wasn't until 1998, when Mazda discontinued the Efini label, that the FD became a MAZDA RX-7 in Japan and the car was badged with their new logo."
