Did you check to make sure it has power with a test light? Also test the ground with a test light. And there should be a accesory power wire that is hot when the key is on and after you turn the truck off before opening the door. Are those 3 wires all good?

metra makes a harness adapter box for the new gm's that have either on star or bose, it will also give you a turn on lead so you won't have to run a wire to the ignition. if you don't have on star or bose, they still might make one, have not ran into one without the bose yet so i don't know for sure. it may even let you keep your door chime, not that thats a good thing

Re: 04 cd player install

I just got finished installing my Alpine CD player out of my 2002 S-10 (trade-in) in my 2004 silverado. On the silverado's (and other GM cars and trucks as well) there is no 12-volt switched power wire behind the radio. When I plugged in the harness that was used in the S-10 the radio would not come on. The silverados use a data signal wire (orange wire right above the 12-volt constant wire) to 'tell' the radio when to turn on, instead of the conventional switched 12-volt wire to just turn it on. You have 2 options. Option 1 is to run a wire to a switched 12-volt source and connect it to the red wire on your radio. You will lose all chimes (door, headlight, low fuel, buckle seatbelt, etc) this way since the factory radio uses the speakers to make the chime noise.

The other option is the mitra kit. It is about $60 but includes a module that connects to the data wire and provides you with a 12 volt switched wire, all of your chimes, and will keep the factory feature where the radio stays on until the doors are opened. This is the option I used and it works great.

Good luck!

EDIT - Also, I forgot to mention my factory radio was not the bose/onstar unit.
