fuel pump help

need help on how to check/replace my fuel pump
4.3 liter "w" 1999, CHEVY ASTRO VAN

I do not hear the pump cycling in tank also removed fuel filter and turned on ignition no fuel at the lines under the van.
is this thing dead can i jump it out at relay and be sure it is bad

If you can get to the wires at the tank that feed the pump, use a test light between the gray wire and ground..have someone turn on the key, the light should light for 2 seconds..then have them spin over the engine..the light should stay lit..if so the pump is bad

I always start with the obvious, and cheapest possibilities

Did you check the fuel pump fuse ? Of course if it is blown, then you will need to find the short that blew it, which of course could be the fuel pump
