interested in buying a 3rd gen camaro

Hello, i just need a little help here. I am interested in buying a 3rd gen camaro. However almost all of the ones i see have the 305 engine. I am not a very big fan of the 305, i had it in a monte carlo some years back and would much rather go with a 350. I understand some camaros did not have the 305 but came with a 350. Which ones came with the 350?

thanks for your help.

Re: interested in buying a 3rd gen camaro

yeah some of the irocs had 350's as well as the RS B4C, but good luck finding one of them for sale. Infact I was on ebay last night and saw a few Iroc-Zs with 350s. However, if you can't find one with a 350 and have to "settle" with a 305 then I can help you with some reall good mods for TBI if you get an RS or 89Iroc&RS and I'm sure others..can help with TPI mods. I have 400hp in my 92RS 305TBI so it can be done.

Re: interested in buying a 3rd gen camaro

yeah 92RS is the king of TBI 305 mods, take what he says to heart and ignore everyone else, including me!! but yeah the 350 is the way to go, no RS sept the B4C had a 350, so you have to look at the IROC's and the Z28's. beyond that, you just have to hit the papers and keep looking, i had to drive 2200 miles round trip to get mine, but im sure you could do better.

Re: interested in buying a 3rd gen camaro

But not all the B4C's had 350's I forgot to add that. So if you find one make sure before you put your money on the table. The best thing to do is get the engine code off of the vin number. the 8th digit. You can post back here with the number or letter or there are some websites to look it up. There are also some third gens out there that have 350 transplants. If you find one from someone who knows what there doing then you'll get a good running car, if not...well lets just say I warned you.

Re: interested in buying a 3rd gen camaro

for 89 to 92, (not sure off the top of my head about the earlier ones) the vin for the 350 is "8" and it is the eigth diget of the VIN like 92RS said. there were two 305 engines, the L03 and the LB9 (TBI and TPI respectivly) the only V8 was the L98 (TPI) happy hunting.

You mean the only 350 right?? Not the only V8...don't worry we know what you mean.
