rough idle/stall

1989 3.0 v6: rough idle, will stall when placing into gear. Engine has new plugs cap rotor wires ect. & runs great other than the idle. Feels like a stuck egr valve, but there is no valve visible.Maybe an internal vacuum leak? Please help.

thanks

Re: rough idle/stall

there isn't an egr valve on the 89 3.0, atleast the one i have doesn't! but you may want to check the PCV and MAP sensor

Re: rough idle/stall

Get a can of throttle body cleaner. Remove the intake tube from throttle body and start engine. Spray half a can into and around throttle plate and into bypass hole in throttle body. You can actually hold the throttle open a bit and use the spray to modulate the engine speed. this will likely fix you up the 3.0 seems to need this every so often. One thing is to watch the catalytic convertor temp while you use this stuff don't get it white hot....

There is also a idle air motor on the back side of the T.B. that adjust after you start and the engine is warming up to keep the idle air balance correct. There can get dirty and stick open or closed and cause idle problems. If your careful you can try to clean it up, or replace.

MIght give it a check.
