The biggest difference is that a ZR2 is 4X4. But, you can get an S-10 4X4 that is not a ZR2. ZR2 is a special suspension/styling package like the Z71 for Silverados. The ZR2 suspension has a torsion bar front suspension(no coil springs) and a leaf spring rear suspension. It also has Billstein shocks and 4.10:1 rear-end gear ratio to give you better low-end torque. It's a little stiffer ride, but it makes for some awesome off-roading. The styling end of the ZR2 package includes fender flares, 15 inch alloy wheels specifically designed for 4X4's and 31 inch all-terrain tires. Oh, the best part. It comes with a ruthless 4.3L Vortec V-6 engine. By the way, I have a ZR2. It is awesome.

Re: stock vs. zr2

Doesn't the ZR2 come with the 191hp V-6?? Or can you get the ZR2 even with the 165hp V-6? Didn't GM make 2 V-6 motors for the S-10's??

Yes Chevrolet did make two 4.3L V-6 engines for the S-10. All ZR2s come with, I believe, the 4.3L X which is the 191HP engine. All other
S-10's and base model Silverados come with the lower HP 4.3L W engine. I may have the W and X engines mixed up, but I know the ZR2's come with the higher HP engine.

Re: stock vs. zr2

I have a 2001 GMC Sonoma, same truck as the S10,and it is 4x4 with the 190 hp v6.It also has torsion bar front suspension and 15" alloy wheels. The major difference between the S10 and the ZR2 is the 3" suspension lift and 4"wider stance that it comes with from the factory.

I got a question about the 4.3L V-6: Is it as strong as the 5.7L Vortec? I know the S-10 weighs considerably less. But is the 4.3L a little beast or not? I've heard is hauls some ass, but give me more detail on it.
