Porsche M3 ? WTH?

Guys, I dont get it, my Porsche GT2 and my wifes E46 M3 Csl are too close to each other?

Long story short : We went for track day at Kyalami and when I drove my Gt2 could not beat my M3, 3 laps with my wifes m3, best lap 1.10min with my Gt2 1.10min!!! WTF... Porsche was more than double the price of my wifes M3 and for what? HELP!!! Is my car broken or what?

Not I go read about some of the M's tests and I see that the car was only 1 second slower than Porsche around Nurburg?? Is this true, if it is then my hat goes off to BMW for making a family car that does the same things my Porsche do.

Dont be too alarmed. Much of the CSL's performance comes from its road-legal slicks. If you put slicks on your GT2 the CSL would disappear in your mirrors very, very quickly.

A few things to make you feel better..

1.The circuit. Some circuits are not built for certain cars. If you went to another track maybe you'd see a difference. Here in Greece a magazine testing a GT2 against a GT3 got considerably worse times running the GT2 due to the track being not very fast and suited best to the lower powered lighter and more agile car. Also even a slightly dump circuit can make a more powerfull car lose more time out of corners than a less powerfull one.

2. Experience with the specific car. Though my guess is this not your first 911 it looks like it's a fairly new purchase and certainly a beast like that needs a LOT MORE time to exploit than an M3 -CSL or not (or normal 911s) which really only requires a reasonable experience with rear wheel drive to drive close to its full potential as soon as you've been handed the keys. I believe a GT2 needs much more hard work to tame and by all accounts it is certainly NOT a user-friendly machine.

3. The tyres. This can make a BIG diffference on any track. Make sure that the tyres you use suit the specific car AND specific track AND your style of driving on that track. You could even be considerably SLOWER (2-3, 5 seconds or more) with the GT2 using the wrong tyres for the occasion. And after you've made sure of all of the above conditions make ABSOLUTELY sure that your CSL doesn't run on semi-racing rubber! Slicks can make so big a difference in times that I bet a 260 hp Boxster with full-slicks would come very very close and possibly beat your little beast with road tyres.
