1990 Lumina fuel pump replacement??? Help!!

How about some help and insight into how to replace the fuel pump on a 1990 Lumina. The dealership wants 570.00 to do it. I can get the parts for under 100.00. Any tricks to the job, or am I in for an afternoon of knuckle scrapping and cussing??

Cussing won't help, just make you feel better. As with most GM's the pump is in the gas tank.Buy a $15 manual or visit the Autozone website-repair info. I hope your tank is near empty. While your in there,be sure to replace the strainer and if you have a "pulsator"-little box directly over the pump-replace that too.Safety note-use a flashlite, not a dropcord lite.Any gas hitting the bulb will start a fire.

It's fixed...I paid someone to replace it. I just did not have the time and during the holidays, if my wife finds me under a car...the party is over. I'll be sleeping in the garage. She was nice enough to give me a new craftsman tool roller storage and set of deep sockets for Christmas....

The car runs great now, just like the day I bought it. It was only putting out 18 psi and specs call for 45 psi. I have a shop that will let me take them parts and they charge me labor only. So I had to pay 2 hrs and kept the wife happy...smart shopping on my behalf don't you think? I lucked out on the parts too. I got them at Napa and I bought them on Christmas eve so I asked what they are giving away for their dedicated customers...they gave me 45% off list!!! So I got the strainer, pump and fuel filter for 51.00.... I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!
