Washer System - Windshield Washer Motor

Hello!

I owe 93 F. Escort Lx, 1.9L (Manual).

I am curious whether anybody experienced a problem that I do have with my Washer System currently. When I am trying to pull my switch (on the right side of my steer wheel, the same one I turn my blades with on) toward me in order to turn on my windshield motor on, it doesn't response. I checked it already (e.g. my Windshield Washer Motor) by connecting it directly to the battery using standalone wires, and it works. So from the library I got the "Front Wiper System Wiring Diagram", and now have to figure it out. As far as I see, there is just 1 switch (probably the one I discribed already earlier). I already checked the fuse - it's fine! So I believed the next logic thing to do would be to unsrued the plastic cover above my switch, and to try to see if I have a "voltage" there after switching it "on"... Also, on the other end of that switch, there is: "Interval governon (behingleft side of i/p near cowl -- where the hack is that?(**##!!??)). So I believe after eliminating (that is having voltage on my switch after shutting the circuit) possiblity of faulty switch, the next step would be to check voltage there?? By checking voltage I mean connecting my voltmeter one side with the device, and the other (-) with the mass (chassis)... Am I correct? Or there is a better way to go?

Thank you.

Re: Washer System - Windshield Washer Motor

I just fixed this. one morening went out, pulled lever down to wipe windshield, worked once, then stopped. I checked my motor, it was in bad shape, went and stole the one off my tracer, which I knew was good, connected the plugs still didnt work. checked fuse, fuse fine. but right behind where you checked the fuse, in the car, under the dash, behind that fuse box, but up some, there are a few relays, should be 3 I think, on a metal stripe holding them up there, just find the one that says wiper replay, I again stole the one out of my traer and the problem was fixed. I managed to blow the motor and the relay all at once.

I just purchase a 1993 escort 5sp and the wipers do not work. I have a wiper motor with a three blade connector. How did you jumper the wiper motor directly from the battery? How did you fix the problem?

Best Regards,
Paul
