1992 spirit 2.5 turbo

I just picked up a 92 spirit 2.5 turbo/auto and was looking over the net for more info, tips etc. on the car. It runs pretty well with 125k but there is a clacking noise right under the valve cover. Too cold to work on it now so i took it over to my mechanic to look at. Any insight on this problem? What things should i look out for. It has new timing belt new water pump new exhaust new head gasket fresh oil change new brakes new shocks/struts... all in all, the previous owner put about $2k into keeping it running nice the last couple years. Seems its 1 of 200-300 or so made in that particular build. Oh yea and it has the traditional paint peeling off in sheets on the hood. Those old days of trying out the water based paint I think. Wonder if dodge will still fix it for you.

Well, a 92 would have a roller cam, not the slider like mine. The cam is all worn out and stuff and clacks a little. But yours wouldn't do that.
One other thing, it could be piston pin slap. Where the connecting rods attatches to the piston, there is slack because it's worn out. Again I thought that was on older model cars like mine that has the lightweight rods. But that could be it. My car has both those noises, sounds horrible when you open the hood and listen. But it runs great. The car itself has over 230K on it, not sure if the engine has ever been rebuilt. I suspect that it has, because I have not driven it lightely (LOL) at all. I race with it all the time. In fact, I only get 16-17 MPG on the street. That might tell you how much I have the foot to the floor! Hey, I used to drive an older mopar with a 440 CID, so I was used to getting 4 MPG! This is a big step up for me, not quite as fast though. But, I certainly don't miss having to spend 40 dollars for 1 filling at the gas station WEEKLY! Now I can go that week(sometimes a little more) with an 18 dollar or less tank full.

also, the injectors are QUITE noisy and sometimes (to me) the noise sounds like it's coming from under the valve cover. you could always open it up and take a peek....
