Go to ebay motors and look up 99 jetta you will see old and new body styles. They made the change over in 99. The old body style is an mkIII and the new body style is an MKIV. If it is a new jetta make sure you check your oil often. See the "burning oil posts".

MKIII trouble spots

Coil
Oxygen sensor (higher mileage)
window regulators
door hinges
check engine light
transmission reverse gear
emergency brake cable

MKIV trouble spots

Oil burn
Rattles in interior
coil
oxygen sensor (and various emission control)

Dont let these scare you. Just keep your car maintained and take care of the trouble spots as they arise and the VW will be good to you.

Re: Question about 99 jetta

FYI the MK3 body style has been the same since 1994.
