1999 grand caravan engine cutting off while driving!
The van looks and runs great but two days ago just turns engine off by itself. No hesitation when idoling nada, nothing. Runs smooth at slow and fast speeds. You'll just be riding down the road(usually between 5-20 mph) and the engine just cuts off! Dodge dealer did a diagnostic and couldn't find anything wrong on the car computer, there are no panel lights to check engine or anything else coming on either. This is potentially dangerous does anyone have a suggestion. Imagine riding down a hill at 20 mph and all of a sudden losing your power brakes and power steering! HELP

Re: 1999 grand caravan engine turning off while driving!
Does it start again right away after it does one of these shut down things? I know there was a voluntary recall on some vans for radio interfence cutting off the computer or something when driveing by airports or something along those lines...
Maybe check for any obviously loose wires or bad grounds. Fuel pumps can go in this manner as well, intermittently dieing and then failing altogether with no codes set. Could you be a bit more specific about what happens exactly when it dies? Do you lose all lights on dash and electrical power or does it sputter and cough as it's quitting? Does it quit at idle or while cruising or at high speeds? Sorry for giving more questions than answers, bear with me I'm thinking on this one...

Re: Re: 1999 grand caravan engine turning off while driving!
It usually quits when going at low speeds, almost at a stop. It has cut off twice at about 20 mph but both of those times it was when we were de-accelerating. The van has about 65,000 miles on it. The real confusing part about it is that it runs really well. When you go to restart it after it has an "episode" it restarts right away. When it shuts off the radio and lights all stay on un-interupted. It seems to do it more 8 out of the 9 times when turning right. I'm wondering if its fuel injectors, filter, etc... or maybe the alarm is doing a kill ignition and is grounding somewhere. Taking it to the dealer they told me it was like finding a needle in a haystack! I think they just didn't feel like dealing with it. Dealer happened to be one that use to deal with this same vehicle before I bought it. The only thing that was showing on repair history other than oil changes, etc...was complaint at 50,000 about the acceleration which is probably dirty injectors.

It turns out it was the Cam position sensor, It would stall out at low speeds and I would have to put it in neutral and then it would just start right back up. I too thought it was the Injectors but after I replaced the Sensor it has not happened again.
It cost me like $50.00 for the part and 5 minutes to replace It.! Good luck
