brakes

Sometimes when i hit my brakes they will squeal, this will only happen a third of the times i hit the brakes the other times it is fine. The noise is coming from the back. I checked the brake pads and they are fine, what could be causeing this? THANKS in advance.

ITs not uncoomon for pads to wear unevenly causing them to seat funny occassionaly. Also, rotors can develope spots of carbide from heat exposure that can catch the pads funny. As long as you are sure the pads are not excessively worn (i.e. you replaced them recently) I would just wait it out and see if it eventually goes away. If the pads are more than a year old or 20-30k miles, I would swap them out. They are cheap after all. You can even replace all 4 rotors for 100 bucks for parts store rotors. Brakes arent something to mess around with, but chances are it iwll be fine if the pads are good.

Thanks you guys. I took my car to a local brake shop to have them look at it and they said that the grease had worn off the pads. And they wanted $15 to regrease it HELL NO!!!!!! I took it back home and went to autozone bought some anti squeal grease and put some on the pad and it was prefect. But i probally will be replacing those pads real soon.

Re: brakes

good thing it wasn't that serious... to everybody else, a lot of places offer "free brake checks" and in my experience they most likely are, so if you are in question as to the solidity of your brakes, take it in and make sure you see them for yourself... most recently my fronts were so bad that small pieces were chunking off and lodging between the pad and rotor for a couple of seconds that "i think my tire is about to fall off" sound was eminating from my wheels... don't wait that long!!
