The keyless entry for my 99 Jeep Grand Chrokee has been working fine until the other day. I replaced the batteries and they still don't work. Does anyone know what the problem could be? If I bring it to Jeep, they'll charge me a lot for a fix that's probably simple! Could it be a fuse or something similar???
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!! |

Re: 99 JGC Keyless Entry Not Working
I don't have an answer for you but I am having the same problem. My will unlock sometimes but hardly ever lock. It started after I replaced the batteries but I have no clue. The Jeep Dealership told me that it was wore out and I would have to buy a new one. Not sure if it is true or not.

Re: 99 JGC Keyless Entry Not Working
Same issue with mine. I just remember to lock it as I exit the vehicle. Sometimes the door unlock will work 15 feet away. Sometimes I have to be right next to it. Going to have something else (and add remote start) installed here soon.

Re: 99 JGC Keyless Entry Not Working
I know mine won't unlock unless you're right next to it, but I took the remote apart and one of the wires were loose inside. I just soldered it back into place and it works fine now! ~ Cruz

Everyone except Jack ( separate problem ),
I assume all people have 99' or newer, its just a remote replacement and its about $40.00. Worth fixing for that.( unless your local dealer is greedy).Jack I'm afraid its your driver door lock actuator and its not the keyless entry .We replace just as many door lock actuators ( latch ) as we do keyless remotes. You people that have 99 or newer Grands, just my ,but we take out or remove a alarm/autostart about 1 every other month or so because it took out the body controller and or door lock-keyless entry module at the same time.I f you do have a "chip" key (grey headed key ) I would advise not doing so.The lowest priced repair I have seen was $400 to fix........snidelywhplsh Esq.

Well, you can only HOPE that it's a simple key fob but most of the ones I have seen will not let either keyfob work. SO, what then??? DCX always uses the lowest bidder to make their electronics. I swear that if you would sneeze in the car, it'd blow something. As far as "but we take out or remove a alarm/autostart about 1 every other month or so because it took out the body controller and or door lock-keyless entry module at the same time...", you must have a bunch of idiots out there installing these things in Jeeps. I have NEVER had a problem with any of the electronics in a Jeep after my installs. Heck, I even work inside a very large DCX dealer. We have an understanding that I wish to be notified BEFORE anyone touches one of my installs. Everyone is happy! Question, are these installers hardwiring the keyless entry using relays in each front door? I use a databus interface that talks to the computer. So, my unit really doesn't do anything but tell the computer to arm/lock or disarm/unlock. I don't even need to use an extra key to get the vehicle to remotely start either.

Jack, My 1998 Jeep GC had the same problem, the driver's side door comes with an adjitator (not sure if this is spelt correctly), you need to have it changed and this should work fine after. The job takes about 20 minutes to do. Hope this helps! |

Re: Re: 99 JGC Keyless Entry Not Working
ponchonutty,
Sounds like you do this on a regular basis. Any advise on how to find someone that will do a good install in my home town? I'm looking for a beefed up keyless entry and maybe remote start on my 96GC. I'm sick of using the key because the system decided it wouldn't work that day. thanks! Quote:

Re: 99 JGC Keyless Entry Not Working
this might aply for some of you out their. some times if the remot goes for a period of time with the battery down it will cause the remot to lose it's programming and you will have to reprogramme it.

What about unlock works; but lock does not?!
Checked the relay center but I don't have clue which belongs to which circuit? I can feel the unlock relay work and if I substitute nothing improves. Is there an extra fuse for the lock circuit? All fuses in the fuse panel view-inspected ok. Suggestions? My Haynes manual shows some detail of wiring. Why don't they include keys to the relay and power centers I'll never understand. Any suggestions wellcome. Thnx. |
