For the pros.....
I got two Polk momo subs and it rattles krazie whenever I turned up the volume....I was wondering if the problem is coming from the box?....Cuz I heard if u customize ur box, the rattling will go away....Also...I have a 8 guage wire for my system...If i changed it to 4 guage, will it bumb harder?????

First off, does the sound SOUND like its coming from the box? You should be able to tell.
Second, it wouldnt hurt sticking in bigger wire, but it matters how many watts your amp puts out to actually be effective. So give us some details on your amp. |

Im no expert when it comes to car audio, Home Hi-Fi is my bank. On the wires, bigger is always better, no matter the application. It offers less resistance for the power to flow thru. It wont "bumb" harder tho.
Ill agree with frogg, need more info. You may want to anchor your box down if its not fixed to the car. Also, is your box ported?? that does have an effect on the performance of the sub. What is the rating on the subs, if your amp has more power than they can handle you could be overextending the sub itself, and that sounds like sh**...my two cents anyway...

my rattling sources in my car include:::
1) rear brake light assembly 2) license plate 3) loose toys in the back (golf clubs, fire extinguisher, dead body... ) THE SOLUTIONS... 1) pull off brake light assembly- wrap electrical tape around the metal bracket that holds it there so it will stay on there tight. 2) put some self adhesive foam on the back of the plate. 2) take out the toys... and make sure that dead body is dead and not pounding on the trunk to get out. good luck with your endeavors :smoker:

Was your box premade 4 your Polk's??? Are the speakers enclosed???
Like Yahnozha asked, "Is your box ported"??? If it is where is, it makes a difference where the port is aimed. Rattle could come from where cliffud said... and loose wires slappin' your trunk (tape 'em down), metal gaps in trunk vibrating together (dynamat trunk) loose spare tire, etc... Do the speakers themselves rattle(pop vibrate)??? If so check +/- connections, make sure wires aren't resting on back of speakers. Then turn amp gain all the way down, turn stereo up as far as you wanna listen to it and SLOWLY turn up the gain. Hope this helps f-bOmb!:smoker2: |
