Wont Start Problem. Suggestions?

94 Metro
When trying to start the car, all I get is a single click like the starter is trying to engage, but just cant turn the engine over. I'm 95% certain the battery is ok, but unsure about anything else. The battery cables themselves are clean and look to have good contacts. I'm not quite certain where the starter/solinoid is to check the cables on that side.

The same problem happened last winter also until the weather got warmer.

Any suggestions or clues as to what could be causing this?

I usually only drive about once a month since I work from home and most everything is within walking distance, but its quite annoying when I do need to go somewhere and to have this happen (but not annoying enough to get it towed and fixed).

Well, could be one of a few things. Bad starter, bad ground, bad hot connection, or bad battery. You've ruled the battery out. Now... you'll see a wire that goes from the distributor to the firewall. I would recemmond taking that wire off, and getting a 2 foot length of 8ga amplifier wire, crimp some nice, proper sized gold plated terminals on each end, and then replace that dinky wire that goes there.

I had my starter do that, and it was because the ground wire that was there melted, because it sucked . Also make sure the positive line is decent. If it's all corroded and nasty, you can run the same power line from the battery to the starter.

Re: Wont Start Problem. Suggestions?

another thing, i've installed a couple of starters, and it takes a bit of movement to get them allinged up, and it starts. but i've had that problem to. fix was a starter replace, mine ran me about 160CAN, so its not all that bad and you can do the work yourself easy
