Angry 02 Gauges sticking??

Hey guys, noobie here! Tried to search first with no luck, so I apoligize if this has been covered before... Anyhow, I just purchased a used 2002 Tahoe LT/Autoride 4x4 with all the bells and whistles. It's got about 25k miles, and runs and drives like a dream. But here's the problem: the tach and fuel gauge both stick! It does not matter what else is happening, i.e. cruise control, lights on/off, accelerating, etc. etc., the tach just sometimes sticks where ever it feels like and will stay put until the vehicle is shut off. Then it drops to 0 like it should, and comes up normally when it's re-started. Now the fuel gauge is a little different; it just sticks on whatever level it feels like and also stays put until the vehicle is shut off, but registers correctly as soon as the vehicle restarts. Imagine how that feels, thinking you got great MPG on that last 200 mile stretch, only to fire it back up and nearly spit out your Slurpee because the gauge is 1/2 a tank lower than when you parked!!! Yup, that's how I noticed it... Anyhow, has this happened to anyone else? They seem to happen at the same time, like the same gremlin affects both gauges at once. Thanks for any tips!!

Re: 02 Gauges sticking??

Forgive me for being a little presumptuous, but with the credentials listed in your sig, the best you can give me is to take it to my dealer?! I was hoping to get some information on the problem/cause before I take it there... Have you got any ideas on the cause? Is this any sort of a common issue? I searched for TSB's on the subject with no luck. Thanks again!

Re: 02 Gauges sticking??

Fine...I don't give out the "this is definately whats wrong" answers too often, because I rely on other peoples diagnosis of a problem....
Most likely senerio....internal cluster fault causing the tach to stick..repair..replacement cluster
fuel sender sticking...repair...remove fuel tank and replace sender or may be related to cluster condition

Re: 02 Gauges sticking??

Thanks! Sort of what I was figuring, but I don't know much about the GM's (I'm a MOPAR guy...). I called the stealership, and they verified the gauge cluster problem, so it's time for an extended visit. They said 5-9 business days to get it sent off and repaired... Bummer. Thanks again.

Re: Re: 02 Gauges sticking??

So what is your problem with the dealer?

We can get an exchange cluster in a day. order it by 3 pm and I'll have you back on the road by 5 the next day..that includes the repair to your fuel sender also. And we will even give you a rental at no charge...

Re: 02 Gauges sticking??

I agree with you. There have been several instances in which a dealer has taken wonderful care of me. However, this one is not... They will indeed fix it, but it sounds like they are planning to take their sweet time! Is there some magical reason that some dealers can't get the overnight-type repair/swap service you mentioned?

That is a question I cannot answer...I have worked at dealers who could get a 1-2 day turn around on clusters and others who would take a week to 10 days.
The ones we get overnight are exchange clusters...if they have an exchange in stock, we get it the next day, if they don't have one, then we have to send yours in, they repair it and it may be 5-7 days before we get it back..
Your dealer may have run into the same problem and that is the best they could do.

Re: 02 Gauges sticking??

Sounds like that's the case, because they said they couldn't get a replacement, they had to send it in for repair... Bummer. Thanks for your input!
