Question How to drop/pull the engine in an mr2

I just bought a 93 mr2 n/a engine yesterday to replace my current engine, as my current 91 n/a engine is starting to act up and has 270,000 miles on it.., the guy i bought it from said that i was going to have to remove a lot of the stuff on the bottom of the car, and put it in thru the bottom with jacks.., i thought you just removed the engine lid and engine lid sides and could drop it in from the top.., i thought you just had to do the transmission and clutch from the bottom if you are not removing the engine.., can anyone enlighten me as to which is right?

also the engine i bought looks a little different than my current one, the decals on the valve cover and another part are silver instead of like my 91 n/a engine which has red decals, the guy told me the 93+ n/a engine looked a bit different.. is this correct?

Re: How to drop/pull the engine in an mr2

I recently pulled a 3SGTE from a 91, yes it does come out the bottom. I disconnected the wiring from the ecu and pushed the plug through the hole so as to bring the harness with the engine. As far as getting it to drop out, have the wheels off, the axles pulled, set a couple of blocks under the engine and trans and lower the car as far as possible. Have the front and rear mounts completely out before you get to this stage.Once the car is lowered start unbolting the mounts from the 2 ends. As you do the engine/trans will slowly lower itself to the blocks, once the bolts are removed you can jack the car up and get the engine /trans out from under. I haven't put one in, so I really can't help much there, but I can tell you a 3SGTE with 5 speed is as heavy as a 5.7GM engine. and it's not flat, so be careful.
