Unhappy Petrol flooding carburettor

Hi

I've got a 1994 ford escort and petrol has been flooding the carburettor, does anyone know how to solve this problem or why this might be happening?

Re: Petrol flooding carburettor

check the choke, choke linkages etc. ie: choke might not be releasing properly and drawing in too much fuel. You might be able to 'free up' the linkages and even tension the choke spring etc...

check the idle/ mixture screws ~ when at idle, screw in the mixture screw until it stalls, or almost stalls anyway, then back off about half a turn.

Carby might need a service/kit re the jets etc. You can get a kit and do it yourself, here where I live anyway for about $30.

Could also be timing. Worth a look at that too.

Cheers,

Andy.

Re: Petrol flooding carburettor

Inside the carburetor bowl you'll see a needle and seat, the needle looks like a miniature plumb bob with a rubber tip, this is probably got something stuck in it, do a carb kit over haul and your problem will likely go away.
