I was thinking of a trip to Italy in February to check out the Lamborghini factory etc. as a gift to myself for my 40th birhtday, maybe take in the Pagani factory as well as a few others: there was an article in EVO the other month about it.

Now i'm thinking perhaps i'll get one of those limited edition books and a factory tour at McLaren instead; i think Woking is only about a 2 hour drive from my house...

I think that those books are out of print, and very rare/expensive to buy these days.

Where are you based ?.

If McLaren would allow you to visit, you'd have to phone and arrange an appointment anyway - I don't think they'd appreciate anyone just turning up and knocking on their door

CeeJay,

At the bottom of the "article" the guy has written, is a link to the official McLaren website, which in turn has a link to the limited edition books that McLaren are currently selling; they are not the ones that were available in the shops.

Part of the purchase of the book includes the opportunity to collect it/them from the factory, which i'm guessing is what the author did.

The style of the English used in the text makes me think that the author is from the States or maybe Canada, and he describes taking a week off to travel to the factory to collect his book.

As for my location, i am in the South East of England, very close to the cathedral city of Canterbury.

No, i suppose they would not be too happy about people turning up "on spec", although i have been to the factory, some 8 or so years ago when i was in the area, i didn't even try to go in, as i felt it would not be best appreciated. With hindsight, perhaps that was an error, after all, the worst that could have happened would have been a "no"...

They won't let you in if you just turn up, they might if you phone and ask nicely.

Just bear in mind that that particular tour of the facilities came with the purchase of a very expensive book and the whole of the TAG McLaren is in the process of moving their entire operation to a new location. This means they don't tend to be so willing to promote at such a grass roots level.

I'm sure that if you explain your position you will find them more than accommodating.
